- Project required expansion of OSM's existing roll shop to accommodate installation of a new Gerb Waldrich Siegen Roll Grinder and close coordination of construction activities with a still-operating
roll shop.
Work included:
- Installation of new concrete foundations and slabs for a 2,000 SF building expansion
- Installation of sixteen, 2-5/8" x 12'-long anchor bolts for the overhead crane support steel
- Erection of steel and siding for the 24' x 96' x 60'-high building extension
- Installation of a 75' x 35' x 20' sheet pile coffer cell. The coffer cell allowed for excavation of soil for
the new roll grinder pit.
- Installation of twelve, 30"-diameter pipe pile, driven to an elevation of -80' from ground level
- Installation of a 70' x 30' x 18' roll grinder pit. Pit walls are 18" thick around the perimeter and base
is 36" thick. Reinforcement for concrete consisted primarily of No. 7 and No. 8 rebar.
- Installation of a one-million-pound inertia block to support the new roll grinder. Block consists of a free-standing
concrete foundation, poured in place, then lifted using hydraulic jacks, and supported by twelve Viscodampers.
- Installation of carriage bed, headstock, tailstock, hydraulic unit, process water piping, and grout bed.
- Alignment of mechanical components required a tolerance of .002"
