EVRAZ OREGON STEEL MILLS —
ROLL SHOP EXPANSION

Service Provided
  • Project required expansion of OSM's existing roll shop to accommodate installation of a new Gerb Waldrich Siegen Roll Grinder and close coordination of construction activities with a still-operating roll shop.
    Work included:
    • Installation of new concrete foundations and slabs for a 2,000 SF building expansion
    • Installation of sixteen, 2-5/8" x 12'-long anchor bolts for the overhead crane support steel
    • Erection of steel and siding for the 24' x 96' x 60'-high building extension
    • Installation of a 75' x 35' x 20' sheet pile coffer cell. The coffer cell allowed for excavation of soil for the new roll grinder pit.
    • Installation of twelve, 30"-diameter pipe pile, driven to an elevation of -80' from ground level
    • Installation of a 70' x 30' x 18' roll grinder pit. Pit walls are 18" thick around the perimeter and base is 36" thick. Reinforcement for concrete consisted primarily of No. 7 and No. 8 rebar.
    • Installation of a one-million-pound inertia block to support the new roll grinder. Block consists of a free-standing concrete foundation, poured in place, then lifted using hydraulic jacks, and supported by twelve Viscodampers.
    • Installation of carriage bed, headstock, tailstock, hydraulic unit, process water piping, and grout bed.
    • Alignment of mechanical components required a tolerance of .002"
