Fairbanks Gold Mining Carbon in Column
For Fairbanks Gold Mining, Phoenix constructed a new Carbon-in-Column process facility in Alaska, requiring our typical scopes of work such as civil, concrete, structural steel, equipment installation, piping and electrical. While the scope of work was typical, the project was anything but typical. In addition to remote location challenges, this project schedule required construction to occur primarily during winter conditions. Phoenix came up with an innovative solution for dealing with the elements on this CIC project. First, the cells were placed on two-beams over the SOG. Then, the building was constructed over the top of the cells. Once the building was up to protect the cells from winter weather, including the overhead crane, rigging was installed to lift the cells and build the support structure in place, underneath them. We also installed 3,000-LF of 24” welded steel pipe, 100% X-rayed, from the leach pad to the new facility.
